| About Sonic City |
We all use the public buildings and open spaces in our city in many different ways. They are where we work, live or play. They are where we perform, protest, are entertained or fall in love. We may love or loathe their architecture, be fascinated by their history or feel attached to them because of one experience.
It's often only when they are changed or altered in some way that we reveal our true feelings about the places we perhaps take for granted. However we use them or feel about them, public spaces are often the backdrop to experiences in our lives - past or present, big or small, everyday or extraordinary.
The Sonic City project is collecting and recording the stories and sounds of the landmark buildings and public spaces of Leeds - to find out what they mean to the people of this city and bring them to life through their voices and recordings. It's a unique opportunity for the people of Leeds to express their thoughts and feelings about their city and to have this documented for future generations
